Pulling blink codes (pre-OBD-II)

Procedure for reading the diagnostic blink codes from the X11 connector under the hood.

M117.967 uses a single-pin diagnostic socket (X11). With the key in position 2, ground the socket through an LED tester; codes appear as flashes (1–9 short pulses, separated by long pauses).

What the diagnosis checks

  1. Have you got a Mercedes blink-code reader (or LED + 22 Ω resistor)?
  2. Did you press the button for ≥ 2 s with key on, engine off?

Possible causes it points to

  • Read and decode the codes
  • Reader procedure / no codes returned
  • Build a simple LED tester
